APA Sportsmanship
Thursday, August 09, 2007 -

For most of us, good sportsmanship comes naturally out of respect for others and the game we play, and our behavior is not swayed by our winning or losing. While good sportsmanship may come easy to most of us, sometimes those with a competitive nature need a little practice to put sportsmanship at the top of their game.

Always be courteous and respectful to your teammates and opponents—it’s important that we all have fun and truly enjoy the game.  You are playing in the APA League to have fun, meet people, and play pool®– not to be insulted, offended, or disturbed by unsportsmanlike conduct. The APA was founded on the premise of offering amateur pool players the opportunity to get together with friends, family, and co-workers to have a fun and relaxing time playing pool. When opponents show good sportsmanship, everybody has a good time—win or lose!

Good manners are imperative for all competitive sports; and sportsmanship is very important to the honor of the League. Boost the morale of the teams you play by complementing your opponent’s good shots and encourage your teammates to do the same!   Keep proper score, shake hands, give high-fives, smile and talk friendly to your opponent and the opposing team all of these subtle acts encourage sportsmanship and you’ll have more fun as you play week to week. When the game is said and done, what matters is that each player has enjoyed playing the game. If you keep your heart in the game, everyone will have fun!
